An Dro

Hello!
This weeks #tunefriday is a French An Dro. Works wonderfully on the standard three row chromatic nyckelharpa and also the older kontrabasharpa. To find out more about the kontrabasharpa watch the video! It's a nice simple tune, good for getting the brain back into shape after too much indulgence over Christmas!! We were on the road a lot over December, so the video was made as and when I could with whatever I had at the time!
Enjoy!

Jul, jul strålande jul

Hello!
It's Christmas, so time for a Christmassy quartet. I'm on the road for the whole of December, so to get this #tunefriday up I've had to make do with the recording room as backdrop. The duvet and washing make good baffles. :) Enjoy!

On Christmas Night - Sussex Carol

Hello!
As we draw ever closer to Christmas here is a tune we have on our Christmas album, On Christmas Night All Christians Sing - Sussex Carol. We perform it in two different keys, mostly as a transport to get into a different key to play a tune at the end. :)

Mary Free - Christmas Carol

Hello!
This week we have a new carol that we have in our Christmas show called Mary Free. We videoed it for Halsway Manor's Advent Videos. The video is a quartet, but not just me this time, it's me and Jonny. :D
The melody of the carol is quite short, but we have a second melody that Jonny wrote, it works nicely as a B part and then they fit on top of each other too. Perfect.

Nu Är Det Jul Igen

Hello!
It's December, so it's time fro some Christmas music! So here is a typical Swedish Christmas song. I know it as a drinking song, but that might be the Easter version that I sing, rather than it actually being a drinking song! Nu är det jul Eigen! Now it's Christmas again.

Enjoy!

The Bluebell Line

Hello!
A simple tune for this #tunefriday.
It can be played as a round or as I like to do - one instrument; four players.
Give it a go, upload and share!

I've been sharing my #tunefridays for a year now. I promised myself that I would do a year and then see if I continued. If you'd like me to continue - then shout good and loud and comment and get in touch.....

The Piper's Wedding Jig

Hello!
This week's #tunefriday is a tune called The Piper's Wedding Jig. If you think there is a similarity between this tune and the Piper's Wedding March - you'd be absolutely right!

It's a säckpipa tune and it's a jig. As with last week I think my favourite version of the tune for a long time will be the version at the very bottom of the page. That video is going to turn up at the bottom of the page one more time.... (As you'll be able to tell if you watch it all the way through!

The Doodle Oak Cloggers

Hello!
This week we've been on the road in pretty extreme temperatures, so it's a bit of a different view this week! The tune is The Doodle Oak Cloggers! It's on our album Red House and was named after our local morris side, Doodle Oak.

The tune played nice and slowly and the dots.
Enjoy!

A very special tune for this weeks #tunefriday. The A part is on the A string, the B part is on the C string and the C part is on the G string. So it can either be played as a round, or it can be played one instrument, four players. Cool huh! I'd love to see videos of people giving this tune a go.....

The Drunken Piper

Hello!
It's #tunefriday. We have a pipe tune this week. The Drunken Piper, it's a strathspey. It's wonderful to play with a C string as there is no need to do a string crossing to get down to the leading note.
Enjoy!

Andy Carey and Drops of Brandy

Hello!
Today's #tunefriday is also a video from the archives, two tunes played through. They're slipjigs with three beats in the bar - Andy Carey's and Drops of Brandy. (In the video I counted two beats in, it should be three really and I'm not sure why I only got as far as two!)  Really great for practising string crossing!
Enjoy!

We have two tunes for tune Friday today. I've pulled the video out of my archive, so I just played them through at pretty much full pelt. But the tunes aren't that hard,  give them a go. They're fun to play.

Björndansen

Hello
I originally learnt this as a långdans that we sang as we danced. It's called Björndansen - (even though the image says Björnlåten). I later got to know this tune in Germany, where it was slightly different. So apologies if it's not the same as the version that you know - this is how I learnt and played it!
Enjoy

Jämtlands Brudmarsch

Bröllopsgåvan

Hello,
Today #tunefriday is Bröllopsgavan - tunes sometimes hide and this one was hidden inside a set of pipes. It fits nicely in both säckpipa A minor and also in nyckelharpa G minor. So I've taught it in A minor on the video and also played it in G minor. Both dots are included here. If you'd like to see this tune played on the säckpipa have a listen to the soundcloud track embedded at the bottom of this entry!
Enjoy!

Olle's Födelsedags Låt

Hello!
Last week I fetch a new nyckelharpa from France. An Olle Plahn body / Annette Osann Keybox Oktavharpa. It's gorgeous, so of course I wrote a tune for it. Then I made an ensemble using all my Olle Plahn nyckelharpas and seeing as the first time Olle heard the tune was on his birthday I gave it the name Olle's Födelsedags Låt. The tune below is the result. The key I chose for the quartet is D, which is nice - but there is a nicer key, so in the dots video at the bottom I've included me playing it in G.
Enjoy!

Brudmarsch efter Johan Vilhelm Söderkvist från Jönköping

Hello!
A nice and simple Brudmarsch this week. A tune I learnt on the säckpipa, but is brilliant on the nyckelharpa too. I taught this at Halsway in April 2016. I included several of the parts, to the top line is the melody with double stops, the second line is a harmony and the third line is a pizzicato bass line. Love it.
Enjoy
:)
